Hi Tidbitters,

Hope this finds you all doing wonderfully well.

Now, back to today's title.  Those unlikely places are people.  When you meet someone the first thing you see is your reflection.

Now, I'm going to hand you a couple of keys here.  The first key is to show you what I mean, and offer you the opportunity to nod and say, "Aha ... yes, I see that ..." and the second key will be how to get past YOUR relection and see the person for whom they are and see how that benefits you.

Ok, the first key - the key of clarity.

When you first lay eyes on a person, be honest with yourself, you start drawing conclusions. Then when they speak, you draw even more.

And with the conclusions you decide immediately whether or not, you like these conclusions.

Let's use an example.  A man on the sidewalk is waiting for a taxi.  He has messy hair.

You'll conlude one of many things:

He is lazy.

He is poor.

He is unkempt.

He is careless.

He is a busy person and ran out of time to spend on his hair.

He is a passionate person, pursuing the things in life that he loves rather than bother with his hair, so as not to cut into the time of doing what he loves.  (Me on days I don't brush my hair! )

Ooh ... why doesn't he care about his looks?

These are just a few examples of conclusions I listed here.  There are of course as many different conclusions as they are people.

But nontheless, ANY of these conclusions, or your own different conclusion you may draw, is a reflection of who YOU are.

Let's now look at who the person is for just a second, of course this you could not have known, you only just saw the person.

This person did not brush his hair, as he was just awoken by his wife who had a contraction and is ready to give birth.  He dashed outside to hail a taxi first thing to have it ready for her.

Why on this earth would this man give a rat's you know what about his hair at this moment?

This is just a simple example of how the first thing we see in others is OUR reflection.

Now, let's talk about slowly getting to know someone.  At first too you'll see your reflection.  Perhaps they are a bit distant and quiet.  This may make you feel a bit nervous with them, not knowing their thoughts of you.  Reflecting your insecurity. 

Or maybe they're a bit brash, which kind or rubs you the wrong way.  Reflecting your dislike of bluntness ... and your preference to things said more nicely. 

Perhaps they are a bit snappy, which kind of hurts your feelings.  Reflecting your tendency to take things personally, or to be a bit more tenderhearted.

I'm handing you the second key now.

Here is the challenge.  Can you look at that person, and see past your reflection?  Look to see who this person is.  Why are they choosing to be distant, brash or snappy?  What the heck is going on in their life that may be affecting them, or have they gone through in life that has colored their character to be a certain way?

An amazing thing occurs when you look past your reflection and find the person with whom you are engaging.  You grow.  You can actually start working through your own beliefs or inhibitions that cause you to see a paticular kind of reflection in others, so that when you meet others now, you can get past your reflection sooner, and start seeing who they are.

Growth ... it is a beautiful thing!  People, what beautiful mirrors they are to us.  Peer into those mirrors, look at yourself, preen what you don't like, then look past that reflection and see the mirror ... the person at whom you are looking.
